See, *deep breath* after the Blackest Night, Geo-Force sort of went off the deep end and brought the entire team back to Markovia, where upon he announces a non-aggression pact with New Krypton, making Markovia an international pariah. Jack Ryder was on one of the first planes back to the states. There, he was accosted and taken to hell by a mid-level demoness, who intended to mate with the Creeper in order to produce powerful offspring. The attempt failed and he escaped back to Earth, where he received a mysterious call telling him to get back to Markovia.

In the Long Road Home Special, he was still in the states, acting as a sounding board for Vicki Vale. We haven't seen him since. I say that he is "lost" because he is not hanging out in Markovia with Geo-Force, Katana, Halo, Eradicator, and Looker, and he is not on the run with BL, Owlman, Metamorpho, and frenemy Freight Train.

Considering that the Doomsday crossover is most likely going to involve Eradicator, it's a crap shoot whether the Creeper will show up or not. Hopefully by that point he is back in Markovia. Or, frankly, just in the story so I can see Giffen draw him!Lukehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07352646370918575626noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5862722106761723755.post-8799523378996410622010-12-31T14:10:59.161-06:002010-12-31T14:10:59.161-06:00Thanks for the info, Luke! If he's still around, I'll get to check him out in the Reign of Doomsday tie-in issue (which I ordered due to it coming right after the Steel special, and for the potential Giffen gore.)Diabolu Frankhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04685199809207954223noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5862722106761723755.post-64519663355973633332010-12-30T20:12:29.093-06:002010-12-30T20:12:29.093-06:00My first exposure to The Creeper (exposure, you kn...My first exposure to The Creeper (exposure, you know, like a virus) was on B:TAS, where he was the insane goofball. "Dramatic pause!" and all that. From there I don't really recall seeing much of him until he showed up in Outsiders, a title you know I have much love for. On the team formed by Tomasi, he played the role of psychopathic intimidator in the gestalt Batman which the group formed. There was a scene where some thugs came upon the Outsiders hideout and found only the Creeper there waiting for them -- needless to say it was played for horror.

Under Tomasi, he was played sort of like a version of Eclipso or the Werewolf By Night except he had conversations with himself. Now he seems more able to control his transformations, but its not clear... he's not one of the major focuses right now so he doesn't get as much screen time.

I want to like the Creeper... but I don't have enough experience with him to say one way or another. I guess I should track down those Ditko books.

By the way, I dig the covers here. Very striking for the most part. #8 and #4 are my favorites, just classics. #5 is quite nice as well.Lukehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07352646370918575626noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5862722106761723755.post-19925754393991249072010-12-30T01:22:18.719-06:002010-12-30T01:22:18.719-06:00M.C., I read the first issue of the '90s serie...M.C., I read the first issue of the '90s series, but gave up after that. I regret it because I generally like Len Kaminsky's writing, but I hated the art. The furthest I got into the Niles version was New World Order. I have read/owned earlier stuff, which we'll get to in due time. I've been trying to knock out a specific Creeper project since October, dang it, with little forward motion made.

Shag, I was really torn on that Eisneresque cover to #1 making the top 10, but I didn't like the looks of the villain, Creeper's pose, and his fur's invulnerability to the elements. The building itself, the background and the violet sky are fantastic, though.Diabolu Frankhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04685199809207954223noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5862722106761723755.post-59648900786066373082010-12-29T23:34:50.255-06:002010-12-29T23:34:50.255-06:00Those Creeper volume I covers from the 1960s are a...Those Creeper volume I covers from the 1960s are amazing! The latter is easily my favorite. Great art and a some interesting big ideas, culminating appropriately enough with the tie-in to Morrison's DC One Million event.

The newer mini I recall enjoying, mostly due to the art, but I did not enjoy the lack of continuity or the Joker connection it made. As added insult, the last issue is by a fill in artist. Lame-O.

While I've yet to actually read any of his original work with the characters most of Ditko's non-Marvel characters have a real soft spot with me. I'm digging your Creeper coverage here.mathematicscorehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15439579069513071094noreply@blogger.com
